Video Theater

The Video Theater is in Hale on the Mezzanine (3W) at the far corner of the floor from the escalator. We'll be showing movies made in 1911 through 2023. A full schedule will be posted on the door of Hale.

The movies and shorts are from 1911 to 2023. The movies will feature robots and flying horses, magic, and alien tech, bugs and Kaiju, songs and terror (but not the same movie).

G-rated cartoons will be shown from 9-11am (sometimes followed by kid friendly movies).

At Midnight each day, we'll have a Creature Double Feature with classic horror movies plus a short in 3D (3D glasses will be provided)

Friday

4:00 PM - The Thief of Bagdad
Douglas Fairbanks’ silent movie. "A thief falls in love with the Caliph of Bagdad's daughter. The Caliph will give her hand to the suitor that brings back the rarest treasure after seven moons. The thief sets off on a magical journey." (1924 B&W G)
6:25 PM - Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
In 1939, the reporter Polly Perkins and "Sky Captain" Joe Sullivan investigate the mysterious disappearances of scientists and the origin of the giant robots that attack New York City. (2004 PG)
8:15 PM - Blue Beetle
As recent college grad Jaime Reyes searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when he unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien technology: the Scarab. (2023 PG-13)
10:25 PM - Gorija (aka Godzilla)
This is the original Japanese monster movie that started the Kaiju movie universe. (in Japanese with subtitles) (1954 B&W PG)
12:00 AM - Robot Monster
Phil Tucker's legendarily bad sci-fi film. After killing almost all the humans on Earth except eight who are immune to his death ray, the robot monster fails at his mission when he falls in love with the last remaining woman. (1953 B&W 3D PG)
1:10 AM - Shrek 3D
"Shrek 3D" was released as part of a Universal Studios ride in 2003 before the second Shrek film came out. (Computer Animated) (2003 3D PG)
1:20 AM - The Bubble
Science fiction film written by legendary radio horror scripter Arch Oboler. A town is trapped by alien forces inside a transparent unbreakable bubble. Also known as "Incredible Invasion of Planet Earth". Probably influenced Stephen King's "Under the Dome". (1966 B&W 3D PG)

12:05 PM - Avatar - The Last Airbender

1:40 PM - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

A documentary film about Arisia's Fan GOH.
Tanya DePass, a lifelong Chicagoan and African American gamer, is determined to make the gaming industry more inclusive for everyone, including people like her. (2021)
4:10 PM - The Lost World
A reporter joins a group of explorers and scientist to rescue a woman marooned on a plateau in South America were they find pre-historic animals. The first movie to be show on an airplane. (1925 B&W G)
5:55 PM - A Wrinkle in Time
After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him (2018 PG)
8:05 PM - Yellow Submarine
Groundbreaking animated musical movie with innovative art and techniques featuring Blue Meanies and the songs and voices of the Beatles (1968 G)
9:40 PM - Kronos
A UFO releases a giant robot that begins absorbing all of the energy from power plants in the US. Scientists and the military battle the machine to save Earth. Wikipedia says "widely praised for its above-average storyline and its farsighted portrayal of the consequences of over-consumption". (1957 G)
11:05 PM - The Call of Cthulhu
A faithful version of the Lovecraft story. A modern movie made as if it were a silent film made at the time of the story's release. It has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. (2005 B&W PG-13)
12:00 AM - Creature from the Black Lagoon
Scientists and their assistants die one by one as they try to capture the mysterious "Gill-man". One of the last of Universal's "classic" monsters, with the best practical suit and some of the best 3D ever. (1954 B&W 3D G)
1:20 AM - Woody Woodpecker - "Hypnotic Hick"
The only 3D Woody Woodpecker cartoon, "Hypnotic Hick". (1953 3D G)
1:30 AM - Revenge of the Creature
Sequel to the Creature from the Black Lagoon. One of the first appearances of Clint Eastwood on film. But don't blink or you'll miss him. (1955 B&W 3D G)

9:00 AM - Gargoyles
"The Awakening" parts 1 - 3. A clan of heroic night creatures pledge to protect modern New York City as they did in Scotland one thousand years earlier. (1994 TV-Y7)
10:10 AM - Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor
The first color Popeye cartoon from Fleischer and still the best. Popeye the sailor encounters the blustering Sinbad (portrayed by series villain Bluto). The cartoon makes heavy use of the Fleischer Stereoptical patent for extraordinary depth. It may have influenced Ray Harryhausen for his "Seventh Voyage of Sinbad". (1936 G)
10:30 AM - Adventures of Prince Achmed
Prince Achmed explores fantastic lands on a flying horse while trying to defeat an evil sorcerer. A visually stunning animated movie and the oldest existing full-length animated feature, predating Disney’s Snow White, colorized. (1926 B&W 45304.46875)
11:40 AM - A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
After a UFO crash lands at the farm, Shaun the Sheep and his friends try to help the alien get home without being discovered by the Ministry of Alien Detection. (stop-motion clay animation) (2019 G)
1:10 PM - Disney's Man In Space Trilogy (some Animation)
A trilogy of episodes made for the 1950s "Disneyland" series, but filmed in color. Features interviews with Werner von Braun, Willy Ley, and other rocketry pioneers, along with some gorgeous special effects depicting a space program that never happened. (1955-1957 G)
2:45 PM - Metropolis
Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent film directed by Fritz Lang. The son of a rich business man tries to help free the workers living far under the city.
This is a print from 2010 with most of the missing footage restored. (1927 B&W G)
5:15 PM - Galaxy Quest
Twenty years after the TV show Galaxy Quest has been cancelled, aliens show up. Believing that the show is real, they recruit the unwilling actors to help them save their planet. (1999 PG)
7:00 PM - Coraline
An adventurous 11-year-old girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets. Based on Neil Gaiman's dark fantasy horror children's novella. (2009 PG-13)
9:00 PM - Madam Satan
A Cecil B; DeMille spectacular that mostly takes place aboard a dirigible. Features over the top song and dance routines. Some adult themes and costumes. (1930 B&W PG)
11:00 PM - The Avengers: From Venus with Love
"Steed is shot full of holes - And Emma sees stars
The members of a society that watches Venus are dying one by one from something that turns them completely white, so Steed joins them to flush out the culprit while Peel chases a light that seems related to the killings.
The first color episode of the British series "The Avengers". (1967 G)
12:00 AM - It Came From Outer Space
A strange meteor crashes near a town. An astronomer investigates as the towns people start acting strangely. Excellent 3D film with script originally by Ray Bradbury. Richard Carlson stars. (1953 B&W 3D G)
1:20 AM - B.O.B.'s Big Break
B.O.B.'s Big Break in 3D came out in 2011. Join B.O.B., Dr. Cockroach and The Missing Link as they try to escape from a secret facility. (2011 3D)
1:35 AM - Gog
Third Ivan Tors film in his "Office of Scientific Investigation" series, and the only one in color and 3D. Enemy agents remotely control automated systems and two robots in an underground research facility (resembling the one in "The Andromeda Strain"), killing scientists. (1954 3D G)

9:00 AM - Asterix and the Vikings
Based on the Asterix book "Asterix and the Normans", this is one of the best Asterix movies made. (2006 PG)
10:20 AM - Mickey Mouse in "Steamboat Willie"
The Mouse is free! In 2024, the version of Mickey Mouse featured in his first cartoon, "Steamboat Willie", is now in the public domain. (1928 PG)
10:30 AM - Superman Cartoons by Fleischer Studios
The original Superman cartoons made by Fleischer studios that helped define the character. Episodes with science fiction import are "The Mad Scientist" (the first cartoon), "Mechanical Monsters", "The Arctic Giant", and "The Magnetic Telescope" (1941-1944 G)
