Arisia Filking Information

Our Special Musical Guests will be Echo's Children (Cat Faber & Callie Hills). Come hear their concert on Friday night! Our thanks to M.A.S.S.F.I.L.C. for a grant to help us bring them from Oregon.

We have a NESFA Hymnal sing.

We have a Rounds singalong.

And, of course, we have late night filking both nights from about 11:00 pm till almost dawn. It will probably be in two rooms until about 2:00, then merge as the weak and the weary fade into the night.

On Saturday afternoon we'll have a theme concert, "Beginnings & Endings". Sign up any time between now and Saturday noon. Time is limited, so first come, first sung. This is not a contest: new filks or old, on beginnings or endings or both.

We also have a few filk panels during the day. Let me know if you're interested in being a panelist on any of these, or if you would like to moderate a different filk panel. The following is a tentative list, partly based on getting enough panelists to volunteer. (The three-digit numbers relate to Arisia '00's program coding system.)

  What you need to know to get into filking.
• 051: Musical Instruments: Past, Present and Future
  In which we explore the evolution of musical instruments: how they were made, how they were played, how they reflected the societies that used them. And then there's the cutting edge of instrument and performance development, which takes into itself modern electronic engineering. And after today, whither next?
• 052: Filk Goes Electric
  Dealing with electronics and electronic instruments while filking.
• 053: Filk Music vs. SF in Pop Music
  What have the influence(s) been?
• 056: Writing a Filksong
  The panelists talk about the process.

Finally, we have dead dog filking mid-Sunday afternoon (along with MASSFILC, the local filk organization).
